Lantern Log #12 — How We Create

One question you might be wondering about the behind the scenes at BADLVCK Press:

“How is all of this made?”

The answer is not simple.

BADLVCK Press was built around the idea that stories no longer need to exist in only one form. The worlds we create move through books, music, artwork, journals, experiments, fragments of lore, and interconnected projects that slowly build toward something larger.

Creating a universe like this as a small independent studio would traditionally require enormous teams, budgets, or production pipelines far beyond the reach of most creators.

So we began experimenting with something different.

BADLVCK Press uses a mixture of writing, visual design, music production, collaborative digital systems, and modern creative tools to help shape and expand the worlds we are building. These tools allow ideas to move between mediums more freely, turning atmosphere into music, concepts into imagery, and fragments of worldbuilding into larger connected systems.

But none of this happens automatically.

Every project still requires direction, rewriting, editing, restructuring, worldbuilding, decision-making, continuity work, and an enormous amount of time spent shaping ideas into something cohesive. Characters evolve. Systems change. Entire sections are rewritten repeatedly until they feel right.

The process is far closer to building and guiding a world than simply generating one. It is not quick, and it is not simple.

Some ideas survive.

Others are discarded completely.

What matters most to us is not the method itself, but the final experience being created. The atmosphere, the emotion, the strange sense of stepping into a world that feels larger than the page in front of you.

In many ways, BADLVCK Press exists as an experiment in modern independent storytelling.

What happens when a small creative project is no longer limited to a single medium?

What happens when books, music, journals, artwork, and interconnected systems begin shaping one another simultaneously?

We do not claim to have all the answers yet.

We are still building.

Still learning.

Still wandering deeper into the fractured paths ourselves.

But whatever tools help illuminate the road ahead, the goal remains the same as it always has:

To create a universe worth getting lost in.
