Hello, Lanterns!
How have you all been settling into autumn?
Whether you're enjoying the changing colours of the trees, watching the rain creep down your windows, or experiencing whatever strange weather your own little corner of the world has decided to throw at you, we hope you're keeping well.
Here at BADLVCK Press, we're thoroughly enjoying the darker evenings, colder mornings, and the wonderful excuse to hide away indoors with something warm while we continue building worlds. Autumn has always been our favourite season. There's something rather beautiful about watching nature slowly surrender itself to winter. The colours, the decay, the quiet transformation of the world around us.
Although, knowing the BADLVCK-Verse, Decay would probably take full credit for the whole thing.
But enough about the weather.
We have something rather exciting to announce.
A Series of Laws: The Law of Storms
5 December 2026 — Our Planned Release Date
Our next major novel, The Law of Storms, is approaching its final stages, and we're delighted to share our intended release date of 5 December 2026.
This marks the beginning of an entirely new series within the BADLVCK-Verse, one that takes readers away from the fractured realms of Shadows and Strangers and into a very different world.
A world where the Laws are not simply distant influences operating behind reality. Here, their presence is far more immediate.
High above a sprawling neon-lit city stands an ancient mountain monastery, home to an Order whose masked warriors train to interact with the fundamental forces governing existence itself.
Within its walls, doctrine is taught, traditions are upheld, and generations have dedicated their lives to maintaining a balance they believe they understand.
But what happens when that understanding is wrong?
The Law of Storms follows Llyrion, a young boy whose existence begins to challenge the very foundations of the world around him. As he grows and eventually dons a mask of his own, he becomes entangled in a conflict involving ancient forces, twisted beliefs, and consequences reaching far beyond the monastery walls.
This is a story of identity, consequence, belief, and the dangerous distinction between control and balance.
And, of course, there are plenty of strange things waiting beneath the surface.
The manuscript has been undergoing extensive editing, and we're incredibly excited to begin sharing more of this world, its characters, and its mysteries as we approach release.
Another Window into the BADLVCK-Verse
One of the things we've enjoyed most about creating The Law of Storms is exploring how differently the same fundamental universe can behave.
Readers familiar with Shadows and Strangers will recognise certain concepts, particularly the Laws themselves, but their influence manifests very differently here.
Where Maxen wanders through fractured realms filled with ancient systems, unusual creatures, and forgotten technologies, Llyrion's world has developed entire societies around the interpretation and manipulation of these forces.
The stories are connected through the deeper architecture of the BADLVCK-Verse, but each stands as its own journey.
That's something we hope to continue exploring throughout our future books.
Different worlds.
Different people.
Different understandings of the same impossible reality.
And perhaps, eventually, a few connections that nobody quite expected.
The Archive Never Stops Growing
Elsewhere within BADLVCK Press, we're continuing to develop the wider universe through writing, artwork, music, and our ever-growing collection of lore.
The RXLICS Archive remains an ongoing experiment in bringing fragments of these fictional worlds into our own, while new stories and ideas continue taking shape behind the scenes.
Some are considerably further along than others.
Some are still little more than strange thoughts scribbled into notebooks.
And some have become so wonderfully complicated that we're beginning to wonder whether we should have left them alone in the first place.
Naturally, we haven't.
Where would the fun be in that?
Into the Darker Months
As we move towards winter, we're looking forward to sharing more from The Law of Storms, including glimpses into its world, characters, and the rather unusual forces shaping their lives.
There are still plenty of things we want to show you before the year is over.
And as always, we'd like to thank every Lantern-Bearer who continues to support BADLVCK Press.
Whether you've purchased a book, explored the RXLICS Archive, listened to our music, supported us through a donation, or simply stopped by to read one of these Lantern Logs, we're grateful you've chosen to spend a little of your time here.
We're still a very small independent creative project, building something that grows a little larger and stranger with every passing month.
But that's exactly how we like it.
One story.
One fragment.
One impossible idea at a time.
The nights are growing longer, Lanterns.
And there's a storm coming.
